Ali-BangBang (Yami/Tao Flying-Fish) and Ali-VonVon (Ami/Pangcah Tamales) means the iconic, symbolic soft-spongy 柔/鬆/軟 (zaitun 刺桐 -Erythrina variegata) wood.
#bang, fong, von, (s)uvan, ang etc are transliteration of (刺)桐 Chinese

One Chinese word 桐 revitalized into several indigenous with a variety of spelling and usage.

Tao suvan 刺桐 flowering season is Flying-fish Alibangbang season. 
Paiwan vucul wood-craft often use 刺桐 for its softwood texture.
Amis, Kavalan, Ketagalan etc use 刺桐 for its auspicious meaning such as 'The beginning of the year' (flowering season) and for special occasions. 

Okinawa
Deigo (Erythrina variegata) is the official flower of Okinawa

Terrence Ying-Tai Lai  賴英泰 in a recent talk I attended mentioned 'Sara's Grave 莎拉之墓' in Tainan.  Saartje Specx story, unknown to many including myself, is most fascinating.  A 17th-century watercolor drawing of the Dutch East India Company’s Fort Zeelandia, present-day Tainan, taken from the Eugenius-atlas, which was commissioned by Laurens van der Hem, a Dutch lawyer and map collector.
